About the Game
Crash Bash is the fifth game in the crash
series and it is Crash’s first party game. The game is developed by
Eurocom (not Naughty Dog) and is the last Crash game on the PS1. It is
crash's second spin-off title, but this time it is a party game. Crash
Bash is based off the Naughty Dog titles, (e.g. warp rooms, characters)
but has a unique style of game play, characters playable and other things.
In Crash Bash, there are 3 main modes of gameplay. The first mode (which
any crash fan should recognise) is adventure mode. In adventure mode, you
unlock new arenas and collect items in mini-games, set in a warp room
style. You can actually play this mode in one or two players, something
that was not possible in previous games. In each of the mini-games you
collect 5 items, Trophies, (win 3 normal rounds against 2 or 3 cpu
players), Gems (Complete one round with shortened time/complete more
points), Crystal (Complete One round with a different rule) and
gold/platinum relics (Complete 2 or 3 rounds in a row against the arena
champions). Unlike previous titles, the number of mini-games in each warp
room is not the same, as each warp room has an extra mini-game added.
Which brings me onto the mini-games themselves. There are 28 mini-games
which are split into 7 categories, 4 mini games in each. Here's a brief
description of the Mini-games:
Crate Crush - you pick up crates and throw them at your opponents to lower
their health.
Polar Plush - you use polar bears to charge your opponents off the ice.
Pogo Pandemonium - involves you bouncing on squares to turn them into your
colour, using pogo sticks. You then bag points by going into purple
crates.
Ballistix - you use a ship to deflect balls from going into your goal and
then try and send the balls into the other goals.
Tank Wars - you shoot other players using tanks to lower the opponents
health.
Crash Dash - you race round a circle track using mini karts
Medieval Mayhem - you collect points by various methods.
The Second Mode is Battle Mode. This is where up to 4 players battle it
put on unlocked levels from Adventure mode, using any of the 8 Characters,
which are – Crash, Coco, Tiny, Dingodile, Cortex, Brio, Kong and Rilla Roo
(a new character). The Third mode, Tournament, you play four of each mini
game and the player who has the most trophies wins. (1-4 Players)
The Story
We start the action
by visiting a hyperspace temple. We see there that both of the ancient
masks, Aku Aku and Uka Uka, are both still arguing about who is best,
Good or Evil? Aku Aku states that they "must resolve this once and for
all time." Uka Uka agrees and then tries to fight Aku Aku one-on-one.
Aku Aku the stops Uka Uka warning that: "No Uka Uka, There can be no
[fighting] between us." Uka Uka then suggests too stage a contest - " a
contest then. Good against Evil, your players against mine!" Aku Aku
agrees and both masks then summon their players for the tournament.
Aku
Aku summons Crash and Coco, and Uka Uka summons Cortex, Brio, Tiny,
Koala Kong, Dingodile and an all new character Rilla Roo. Aku Aku states
to Uka Uka: "this is not a fair contest! You have too many players. If
your confidence in evil is so great, you can win with equal sides. You
MUST surrender two of your team." Uka Uka agrees and Aku Aku picks Tiny
and Dingodile. With Equal teams, they start the tournament.
Maximum percentage: 200% (28 Trophies, 28 Gems, 28 Crystals, 28 Gold
Relics and 28 Platinum Relics.)

Character Guide
Crash and CocoCrate Crush ()
- The Bandicoot's throwing ability is quite weak and slow, but
there throwing is excellentPolar Push ()
- Crash and Coco can charge two times per charge bar, so you can
easily attack and defend.Tank Wars ()
- They aren't really that good in tank wars, as they weapon is a
very slow moving fire ball.
Cortex and BrioCrate Crush
()
- Cortex and Brio have an excellent throwing ability, but there
kick ability is average at best.Polar Push ()
- Their charge does take up a full health bar, but it is really
strong. Cortex and Brio are more into attacking rather than
defending.Tank Wars ()
- The scientists projectile, a green laser ball, is fast moving,
so they are excellent at this.
Tiny and KongCrate Crush
()
- Tiny and Kong can pick up crates and throw them far, but not as
far as cortex and brio. They kick isn't very good either.Polar Push ()
- Their charge is heavy and slow, but powerful. But unlike cortex
and brio, it takes only 3/4 of the charge bar.Tank Wars ()
- Similar to crash and coco's, there spiked balls is slow and
useless.
Dingodile and Rilla Roo
Crate Crush
()
similar to crash and coco, apart from they can't move when using
there kick attack.Polar Push ()
Dingodile and Rilla Roo can charge two times per bar, but its not
very strong.Tank Wars ()
They can both shoot two shots at a time, but both do half the
damage (so it does the same damage) and it isn't very strong or
fast.
In Short: Use Cortex/Brio for Crate Crush, Tiny/Kong for
Polar Push, Cortex/Brio for Tank wars and choose whatever character
for the other mini-games types. (as everyone is the same)
After
Crash wins Cortex in the tie-breaker game crash crush, Aku Aku
states to Uka Uka that he has lost and for punishment for trying to
steal the crystals, Aku Aku releases Uka Uka in the mists of
space. But little does Aku Aku know, that Uka Uka will return...
My Review
Graphics 69% - Crash Bash has a lot
to live up to, as the previous titles of the series have really strong
graphics. Crash Bash's graphic's are mostly ok. Their are prenatly of
level themes but the backgrounds and as good as say, crash 3. The
Character models are also extremely poor - even worse than the karts in
ctr.
Sound
88% -
Even through Steve Duckworth did the music for this game, the music is
still of a high standard and is
extremely good. There is actually more music in this game (as the tracks
hardly get repeated), and also has remixes from previous games (e.g. Space
Bash is a remix of Future Frenzy) Great stuff.
Gameplay 78% - Crash Bash is a muti-player party game. There
are many mini-games to choose from, but
having four very similar in each group, you sometimes think it isn't good enough.
The adventure mode improves the game a lot, but it can be frustrating.
Lifespan 68/89% - I will give this game lifespan 2 scores. The
1st is for completing the final boss. The second is for completing the
game 200% (you get nothing for it)
Crash Bash is overall a good game, but it does have its flaws.
Increase the score by 10% if you have friends as this game shines in
muti-player.
Final Rating 83%
