Crystals
The crystals were the most important items in the earlier games of the series. Cortex and Uka Uka used to try and obtain these for infinite power and to take over the world. There are many of these Purple Crystals scattered all over the earth, and so Crash found and collected them before Cortex and Uka Uka got their hands on them. Now-a-days, Cortex and Uka Uka have no interest in the Crystals, and have found new sources of energy and power. (Mainly Mojo)

Throughout the games, they can be gathered in various ways. In Crash 1, Crash 2, Crash 3, WOC, Twinsanity and COTT (Ds version), crystals are found on the main paths. In CTR and CNK, they are gained by completing a battle arena challenge. In Crash Bash, you win them by completing a level with an added rule of some-sort. In Crash Fusion, they are won for completing a mini game.
Gems/Shards
After Crystals, Gems are the most important items in the games. They are scattered around the world like crystals, and come in three varieties, clear, coloured and shards. Clear gems are the most common, coloured gems come in many colours which are used to open up paths, and shards. (see below)   To collect them, this usually means breaking all the crates in a level or by finding them along death routes. Gems are usually needed to unlock the 100% ending of many of the games.

When N. Trance hypnotised Coco and Crunch, crash found some sections of gems scattered through the worlds. They are called Gem shards, which 4 shards of a particular colour are combined to make a whole coloured gem. Green for the Arabian era, red for the Egyptian era and blue for the volcanic islands.
Relics
Relics are usually won by completing a level as fast as you can, and you win a coloured relic depending on how fast you are. Sapphire, Gold and Platinum. Platinum relics are the hardest to earn, as you usually need crash's running shoes to obtain it. Relics are in the games crash 3/ctr/woc/xs and n.tranced. They also appear in Crash Bash but to win them you need to complete the arena champions twice or three times. (It has nothing to do with time)
Wumpa Fruit
Wumpa Fruit is the most common item you will find in the games. These tasty "apple" like items are full of natural goodness which are usually found lying around or inside crates. Wumpa Fruit can also be a weapon, if used with Crash's Bazooka, glider or wumpa gun turret. In many of the earlier platform games, collect 100 to gain a life. In CTR and CNK, gain 10 to boost your weapons.

Super Powers
In some of the games, crash can gain super powers by defeating bosses. These super powers can improve crash's previous moves or gaining him new ones.

Super Belly Flop: This gives crash's body slam a bigger radius which is able to destroy nearby enemies and crates.
Double Jump: This adds a extra jump to crash, so he can go twice as high.
Death Tornado: This makes Crash's spin attack last a long time. Combine with double jump to temporary glide through the air.
Bazooka: Aim and shoot wumpa fruit at enemies, targets and crates. What's the catch? No catch! As it has unlimited ammo
Crash Dash: Hold the button and sprint twice as fast! Use to get platinum relics.
Tip-Toe: Use to cross Nitros without getting blasted to smithereens!
Super Slide: Increase the length of your slide.
Rocket Jump: You can jump even higher with this power-up, even higer than the double jump.
Keys
Keys are rare items and appear in 3 games. In crash 1, the 2 keys found in the game unlock two levels. In CTR and CNK a key is earned when you have defeated a boss. These keys then unlock new race tracks.

Trophies
Trophies appear in 3 games. In CTR and CNK, there act like crystals in eariler games, you get one when you come 1st in a normal race. In crash bash, a trophy is won by completing a normal mini-game 3 times.
Tokens
Tokens are awards in CTR and CNK by collecting C, T, R and C, N, K in a race and becoming 1st place. Then if you collect 4 of a colour and win a gem cup, you will win a gem. There are 5 colours, red, green, blue, yellow and purple. (The yellow isn't present in CNK). The purple tokens are won by collecting all the crystals in a battle arena before time runs out.
Trading Cards
In Crash Fusion/Purple, trading cards are common items which are collected by buying, picking them up or by earning them in Moneybag's shop or weightlift mini-games. To complete the whole collection, the player must link with another copy of crash fusion and Spyro fusion.
Wumpa Coins
In CTTR, the currency is not wumpa fruit but Wumpa Coins. They are given as prizes in races and aracded. You also pay wumpa coins to workers and characters for veichels and upgrades.

Mojo
Mojo is the new-founded power-source and can be found on Wumpa Island. Cortex and Uka Uka found a way to collect the mojo and harness the power to create a loyal army of titans. Mojo is the most common pick-up in crash of the titans, which replaces the old wumpa fruit. Crash collects Mojo to earn upgrades to his health, slide duration and spin attack.

Crates

Surprise Crate
Inside each crate is either wumpa, an extra life, or rarely a Aku Aku mask.
Basic Crate
This is the most basic crate, these only hold a couple of wumpa.
Checkpoint
This crate is a real life-saver. When crash breaks open this crate, it saves your position in the level, so when you die later on, you do not have to start at the beginning of the level if you lose a life.
Bounce Crate
As the name suggests, you bounce on these crates multiply times (5 or 10) to collect loads of wumpa fruit. Spin these crates and you will get nothing.
Arrow Box
These crates give a spring in your step, in other words jump onto an arrow box and you can get an extra jump into the air, to some wumpa fruit, new heights or more crates. There is also a steel version of this crate which cannot be broken.
Aku Aku Box
If you find one of these crates in a level, then you are in luck. Break open an Aku Aku box and you will gain a hit-point against all enemies and dangerous hazards and crates. Break on box for 1 hit-point, two boxes for 2 hit-points and 3 boxes for temporary invinsiabity for all dangers. But remember - Aku Aku cannot save you if you fall down a hole.
Crash Crate
Break open a crash crate, and you will gain an extra life, to add to your collection of lives. In woc, Twinsanity, there are also coco, Nina and cortex versions of this crate, which all have the same purpose.
Iron Crate
These crates cannot be broken, and there only purpose is to act as platforms to new areas or crates.
Locked Box
These crates are similiar to the basic crate, but you can only open them by Crash's body slam/super belly flop moves. This crate appears in most games after crash 1.
TNT Crate

TNT crates are dangerous, if you don't know how to use them. The only way to destroy a TNT crate without blowing yourself up is to jump onto it to set the 3 second timer off. Then get clear!

Nitro Crate
These crates are dangerous! Avoid them at all costs. Up to Twinsanity, Aku Aku could protect you. But from Twinsanity onwards he can't, so they are more dangerous than ever before!
Nitro Switch
This crate is very useful. It destroys all the Nitros crates in a level so you can get a clear gem!
Outline Crate
This is a useless crate, until you hit a switch box to fill them in. Then they turn into various crates.

Switch Box
Hit this box to fill in outline crates.
Slot Box
Spin these slot boxes to claim your prize before it turns into a steel crate! Sometimes a TNT is hidden as one of the prizes, so be careful!
Time Crate
These crate appear in time trail mode only. Depending on the number on the side (1,2,3), it will freeze the clock for that many seconds.
Invisibility Crate
Only in wrath of cortex, it will make crash invisible for a couple of seconds.
Copter
Only in n-tranced, crash will be able to ride a copter, when he breaks open this crate.
Freeze
Only in n-tranced, the freeze crate will freeze all ememies in the level for a short time. This doesn't mean they won't hurt you though.
Magic Carpet
Only in n-tranced, break open this crate to turn into flying carpet crash.
