Top gear is a award
winning television program all about cars and all related stuff. The show was created and owned
by the BBC and has aired for 10 seasons, spanning from 2002-2008. The next
season, 12, is due to in the winter of 2008.
Top Gear started in 1977 in a 30 minute, magazine based show,
which had 17 presenters over the 24 years Top Gear was on Air. (This
series of Top Gear is usually referred to as "old Top gear"
because of the difference in style and content). In 1999, Jeremy
Clarkson was let go by the program because of the way he expressed his views and this
eventually led to the show being cancelled in 2001, due to low viewing
ratings.
In 2002, Channel 5 decided to re-invent
the show, but because the BBC still owned the rights to the name Top
Gear,
the show was called Fifth gear. The show had many of the old Top Gear
presenters and it is known for its more "straight to the point" format
about cars.
Also in the same year, the BBC then restarted the show with 4 presenters,
which 2 were new.
Meet the team: the wise guy
Jeremy Clarkson,
the new boy
Richard Hammond,
the cheap-skate
James Dawe,
captain slow
himself,
James may
and all we know is, he's called
the Stig.
Over the years, Top Gear has many
segments to the show, power times by the Stig, the star in the reasonably
priced car, big races, stunts and loads of other segments to the show.
